The said firm tested the dual train track that runs between Dera Gujran and Ali Town on Monday – against engine speeds (specifically) varying between 20 to 50 kilometres per hour.
This test has helped to determine the strength, alignment and performance of the track laid down for the project. During the proceedings, consultants from the National Engineering Services of Pakistan, as well as other contractors, were also present.

As per reports, the engineers present during the test have declared the track’s structural performance satisfactory. Furthermore, the report on the performance of the track’s civil structure has been forwarded to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority.
The Government of Punjab singed the project contract with a Chinese firm back in May 2014. The OLMT connects Ali Town with Dera Gujran, while passing through Thokar Niaz Baig, Chauburji, Mao College, The Mall Road, Lakshami Chowk, Railway Station, Garhi Shahu, GT Road, UET, and Pakistan Mint.

The project faced several delays due to concerns raised against the alleged threats that it posed to the historical buildings located along its route. Earlier, the original deadline that had been set for project completion was December 2017.
