Lahore: Two Chinese companies, Shaanxi and Qingshulyuan, are willing to collaborate with the Punjab government on a wastewater treatment project – a news source reported.
Shaanxi’s Project Manager James Liu and Qingshulyuan Director Lee Lei called on Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan. Sharing the details, Aleem Khan said that the project will be launched in several major cities of the province. Under phase one, wastewater treatment plans will be established in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Sargodha.

He said that the province’s rivers and canals will be channelised to ensure adequate provision of potable water. He directed the authorities concerned to make no compromises regarding the quality of these projects.
Moreover, the minister asked the Chinese companies to hold negotiations with the departments concerned in a bid to expedite work on the projects. He assured the government’s full cooperation to these companies.

Meanwhile, the provincial government has constituted a council to address the issue of water wastage. Chief Minister Usman Buzdar is the chairman of this body. Other members include Irrigation Minister Mohsin Leghari, Agriculture Minister Malik Nouman Langrial, Chairman P&D, and secretaries of the agriculture, local government and irrigation departments.
