Islamabad: Several Chinese companies and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTCC) have agreed to develop a joint mechanism to absorb thousands of skilled Pakistani workers in CPEC projects, according to a news report.
A statement to this effect was given by Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing during a meeting with the NAVTTC Chairman and Executive Director (ED) at the commission’s headquarters.
Speaking on the occasion, NAVTTC Chairman Syed Javed Hassan said that investment in youth is the only path towards economic development.
He added that currently the country is producing only 400,000 skilled people each year. He said that NAVTTC is committed to boosting this number to the 1 million mark in the next 18 months.
NAVTTC ED Dr Nasir Khan gave a briefing to the ambassador about the initiatives of NAVTTC for successful implementation of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) reform agendas.
He said that right now, priority areas for the commission include:
- Ensuring meaningful involvement of industry
- Delivering equal access (skills for all)
- Producing a skilled labour workforce to meet international job requirements
- Building a positive image of TVET to attract more youth towards the skill sector.
