Islamabad: Chinese Foreign Minister (FM) Wang Yi has announced that China will support Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s debt relief initiative at the upcoming G-20 Summit and other relevant forums, a news source reported.
Reportedly, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had a discussion with his Chinese counterpart on Wednesday in a bid to seek China’s support for the said initiative.

Yi appreciated Pakistan’s thoughtful and timely gesture on the matter as developing countries are expected to suffer the most from the economic repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdowns instituted to contain it.
The Chinese foreign minister revealed that, during the recent visit of President Arif Alvi, both countries agreed to jointly tackle the outbreak. He said that Beijing appreciated Pakistan’s support during China’s early battle against COVID-19 and it plans to, in turn, assist Pakistan to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

As per reports, FM Qureshi had reached out to Chinese FM as a part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reach a global consensus on the debt relief initiative proposed by Khan.
