Peshawar: The Chinese government has announced its intention to set up a new visa office in Peshawar, a news source reported. Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday.

He said that the purpose behind setting up the service centre was to improve the economic ties between the two countries; adding that the Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) would commence with its operations this year. Rashakai was the first SEZ to be approved and developed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project framework, he said.

For facilitating the SEZ development, Beijing would provide funds while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would procure land. As per reports, the project is expected to bring in investments worth USD 128 million, as well as creating 200,000 jobs for the locals.
Similarly, this economic zone would facilitate improvement in cultural ties through exchange of exchange of delegations.
