Gilgit: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing has informed that his government has released a development grant worth PKR 5 billion, a news source reported. Jing added that the grant has been released under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the federal government will soon transfer it to the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government for the purpose of its uplift projects.

During his meeting with the GB Chief Minister (CM) Hafeezur Rehman, the Chinese envoy stated that his government will help GB’s development in multiple sectors. This will include the widening of the Karakoram Highway from Riakot in GB to Thakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), he added.
CM Rehman also thanked the Chinese government for the providing 100 beds for GB hospitals. He made the suggestion that Chinese and GB governments should join hands to launch a project for disabled persons in the region.

The Chinese envoy assured the CM of taking all the possible measures in order resolve the issues of GB’s people.
