Karachi: A Chinese delegation led by Consul General Li Bijian called on Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah and donated PKR 25 million to support Karachi’s urban flooding relief measures, according to a news report published today (September 23).

The funds will be utilised for the rehabilitation of the rain-affected people of the city. The Chinese delegation expressed profound sadness over the loss of precious life and property during the recent monsoon rain spells in the metropolis.
Moreover, the consul general assured the chief minister that the Chinese government aims to help alleviate the affected farmers. Shah appreciated the Beijing’s gesture and support, and recalled its previous aid efforts during the urban floods of 2010 and 2011.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the heavy rains in August had inundated 519,904 acres of agricultural and barren lands in Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad Division – out of which at least 400,000 acres of land has been dewatered, while flooding relief measures were underway to clear the remaining land.
