Lahore: A high-level delegation of Chinese investors has expressed keen interest in exploring investment opportunities and setting up a manufacturing plant in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) of Punjab, the news sources reported on February 21.

In a meeting with Interim Punjab Commerce Minister S M Tanveer, a delegation led by TIANS Group President Zhang Zhang expressed a desire to establish a manufacturing facility in Punjab’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ). Mr Zhang added that the group is interested in forming joint ventures (JV) with regional businesses to advance industrialisation. The delegation showed their interest in exploring opportunities in the fields of energy, health, and technical training. The minister assured that the government would cooperate in every possible way to attract Chinese investments in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) being set up across the province to woo foreign investors. The delegate was also informed of the 13 existing SEZs and six more on the way.

It is important to note that Pakistan and China have entered into the China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC) Phase II. The second phase calls for the development of an industrial base that will manufacture goods and services for the Asian and Chinese markets. Pakistan is developing multiple SEZs with dedicated infrastructure for investors.
