Islamabad: The Chinese government on Thursday pledged a grant assistance of PKR 100 million for an infrastructure development project pertaining to the rehabilitation of four sections of N-5 (National Highway 5) between Hala and Moro in Sindh, a news source reported.

To this effect, Beijing and Islamabad finalised an agreement during a meeting held between Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar in the capital city.
As part of said undertaking, China will fund the rehabilitation of four sections of the highway between Hala in Matiari district and Moro in Naushahro Feroze district. The Chinese envoy said that the N-5 stretch was located between Pakistan’s southern and north-western parts.
He further emphasised the importance of the road link; stating that it was seen to accommodate a large number of vehicles on a daily basis. He added that Beijing had provided its approval to the rehabilitation of the 66km chunk of the road.

In response, Minister Bakhtyar lauded the Chinese government for providing financial and technical support for various infrastructure and socio-economic development projects in Pakistan. He said that Islamabad was committed to ensuring the socio-economic uplift of far-flung areas of the country in line with the vision of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.
