Chandni Chowk Flyover – a multi-billion rupee project – is all set to open for public on March 10, 2012, as reported by Punjab Highways and Roads Executive Engineer (XEN) Rana Muhammad Basharat. According to resource, the construction cost of mega project of Chandni Chowk Flyover is estimated to be around Rs 1.216 billion and it will be inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
With this flyover, the long standing issue of traffic will be sorted. The length of the constructed flyover is 403 metres. On the record, it is estimated that around 128,900 vehicles pass through this junction daily and the flyover will be solving all traffic issues at Chandni Chowk in particular and on Benazir Bhutto Road in general.
Though 80 percent of the construction work has been completed but all the transporters coming and going towards Commercial Market, Rawal Road, Iran Road and Benazir Bhutto Hospital will have to face a bit inconvenience for few more days.
Rana Muhammad Basharat added further, “The chief minister will unveil the plaque to open the flyover for general traffic at 3 PM. More than 80% work on the Chandni Chowk Flyover has been completed, while service roads, including U-turns, under the flyover and green area will take another 30 days to become fully functional.” The flyover will have six lanes – three lanes on each side.
Rana Muhammad Basharat said, “We will complete service roads soon. For the time being, one lane on both sides of service roads will be opened for traffic to facilitate people wanting to go to Commercial Market, Iran Road, Rawal Road and BBH. The remaining sides of service roads will be opened after completion of work.”
District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar, Punjab Highways and Roads Superintendent Engineer (SE) Farhat Munir, Brigadier Shahid Manzoor of the National Logistic Cell, MNA Malik Ibrar, MPA Malik Iftikhar, MPA Ghulam Raza Malik and several others visited the flyover site on Wednesday to inspect the construction work and the status of the flyover.
The task was assigned to the Punjab Highways and Roads Department to complete the construction work of the flyover within 130 days but the task is achieved within 127 days. It is an achievement itself.
