Chandni Chowk Flyover seems to remain unable to solve traffic issues for which it was built. The traffic flow has not been build on Benazir Bhutto Road as the motorists and commuters coming from Islamabad continue to face the worst kind of traffic jams after crossing the bridge. However, motorists going to Islamabad while coming from Benazir Bhutto Hospital to Chandni Chowk do not have to face the same traffic mess.
As per the commuters and motorists, this single flyover is not enough to solve traffic issues so the government should build a mega flyover from Saddar to Faizabad or construct smaller flyovers on all the busy intersections on Benazir Bhutto Road. Commuters are not happy from the Chandni Chowk Flyover and comment that they face difficulties due to lack of planning and management of concerned authorities. If public is not relieved then it is needless to spend billions on development projects such as money is wasted on Committee Chowk Underpass and on Chandni Chowk Flyover.
All the intersections at Mareer Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, Kohati Bazaar, Naz Cinema, Rehmanabad, Sixth Road and Shamsabad are very busy and traffic jam at these points for few minutes even creates worst kind of traffic mess on Benazir Bhutto Road.
Punjab Highways and Roads Executive Engineer (XEN) Rana Muhammad Basharat has accepted the fact that flyovers must be constructed on all the intersections to resolve the traffic issue on Benazir Bhutto Road. Few U-turns at Rawal Road and Commercial Market Road would solve the traffic issue to some extent.
Muhammad Nouman Haider, related to the planning and development field, said that the provincial government has spent billions of rupees to only to provide 10 percent ease to the public. The government has spent Rs 1.216 billion on the Chandni Chowk Flyover, but motorists still face the same issue. Therefore, it is the need of time that government should construct flyover from Saddar to Faizabad. Otherwise, public will remain trapped in traffic mess.
