The encroached land was adjacent to the assistant commissioner office, and consisted of an illegally-built market with 11 shops. The administration demolished this market, and also sealed a plaza that had been built in 1997 on government land. The AC revealed that the shopkeepers had been given prior warning before the demolition took place. This is in accordance with the anti-encroachment operations across the country.
He also sent notices to 40 encroachers, which stipulated that they must present their ownership documents by September 15, or face action. AC Muzaffar also revealed that the freed land covered 15 marlas, and was worth PKR 150 million. In addition, the retrieved land will be utilised in the expansion of Tehsil Chowk, one of the most bustling squares of the city.
