Following a meeting with the elders of Burki Tribe of the Kanigram, the DFO addressed media persons. He informed the media that they have, for the first time ever, established forest checkposts at different points across the district.
Talking to the tribal delegation, Saleem said that after the merger of the erstwhile FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the provincial government has taken special steps to protect the forests in these areas – particularly in South Waziristan.
The DFO stated that the chainsaw was a major reason for deforestation as it helped remove massive trees in just a few minutes. Following the complete ban on using chainsaws in South Waziristan, he added, that chainsaw users would face legal action.
