Rawalpindi: The government had begun the land acquisition process for the Chahan Dam in order to provide water supply to seven Union Councils (UCs) of Rawalpindi, a news source reported. Officials concerned have revealed that the government will award the construction contract after completing the feasibility study for the project.

The Small Dams Organisation (SDO) will be overseeing the project. Meanwhile, the government has released PKR 400 million out of a total of PKR5.30 billion allocated for the project.
The authorities concerned will construct the dam in the Sil River. Once completed, the Chahan Dam will help overcome the issue of water scarcity in different UCs of Potohar Town. These include Chakra, Dhamyal, Dhaman Syedan, Girja, Chak Jalaldin, Lakhan, and Kalyal.

According to sources, a rapid rise in population has led to the problem of water scarcity in all the UCs falling under the jurisdiction of the Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA).
