Islamabad: The federal government is intensifying its efforts to foster development in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), with a particular focus on job creation and boosting the tourism sector. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has recently announced a series of strategic development projects aimed at improving key areas such as tourism, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, in a bid to elevate the region’s socio-economic conditions.

During a briefing, an official source highlighted the government’s dedication to enhancing connectivity across the remote areas of GB. Key projects include the construction of new roads and the improvement of existing infrastructure to ensure better access to remote regions, benefiting the local population.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the government is also focusing on upgrading health facilities in far-flung areas, with several basic health units being modernized. These upgrades aim to improve healthcare accessibility for residents, particularly in underserved regions.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the significant potential of tourism as a primary source of income for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. With millions of tourists visiting the region each year, the government is working to create new opportunities for local communities, particularly through training programs aimed at preparing youth for careers in the tourism industry.

He proposed the development of camping sites and tourism facilitation centers across all provinces to support both domestic and international tourists, ensuring that the local attractions are more accessible and better promoted. Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Salam Pakistan portal, an online platform designed to guide tourists and provide them with essential information about traveling in Pakistan.
Leveraging technology to enhance the tourism experience was also a key point of discussion. Prime Minister Sharif stressed that the use of technology could streamline processes and ensure seamless travel experiences for visitors, boosting tourism and local employment in the process.
