Karachi: The federal government on Wednesday suggested the Sindh government to continue its smart lockdown policy in Karachi’s coronavirus hotspots as in other parts of the country, a news source reported. The provincial executive has already extended the province-wide lockdown for additional 15 days but remains undecided on the smart lockdown that was imposed for a fortnight. The smart lockdown is scheduled to end on the night between Thursday and Friday.

The federal government believes that Sindh should keep the smart lockdown imposed in Karachi’s coronavirus hotspots, as the province has yet to show stability in cases like other parts of Pakistan. A top official of the executive stated that the said strategy had helped stabilise the situation but provinces could not make mistakes or relax rules at this point.
Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar said that apart from Sindh, other provinces have shown positive results after sealing the virus hotspots. He added that the centre could only suggest and the final decision laid with the provincial governments.
