Islamabad: The federal and Sindh governments on Wednesday formed a joint committee to work on six priority areas for the development of Karachi, a news source reported. According to the details available, the six-member committee will ensure the early completion of all the ongoing long-standing development projects in the city.

Minister for Planning & Development Asad Umar stated that the committee would work on priority areas, including water, transport, sewerage system, solid waste disposal, roads infrastructure, and removal of encroachments. In this regard, he added that the authorities concerned had either already designed the requisite projects or initiated new ones for development of Karachi in these particular areas.

The meeting between the centre and the provincial government decided upon the removal of all impediments pertaining to projects like the KCR, KIV, and S3 with mutual consultations. Additionally, Umar revealed that the final project list would be shortlisted within two weeks, along with a decision regarding the division of responsibilities for each venture between the federal and Sindh governments.
