Karachi: The 6th Coordination Committee constituted between Sindh and the federal government’s met and discussed land-related issues faced by Mauripur Expressway and IC Interchange Project, according to a news article published on January 10.

The meeting was apprised that the Request for Proposal (RFP) for Mauripur Expressway and IC Interchange Project was issued in June last year and technical bids were opened in September. The project is hindered at various sections due to the fact that multiple departments have jurisdiction over them. The locations of the Project such as Interchange at Lyari Bridge, Elevated U-turn, Marine Academy Flyover, Kakapir Road Widening and Flyover, Salt Field Area, ICI Flyover Ramp Road widening near ICI Intersection and ICI Flyover connections fall under the authority of Karachi Port Trust, Pakistan Railways and National Highway Authority. To move forward with the project, the NOCs of these departments are required.

In response, the coordination committee ordered the departments involved to issue no-objections certificates to launch the project. While discussing the Gujjar and Orangi Nullah rehabilitation, the meeting decided to reduce the Right of Way (RoW) to 20 ft, in which a wall alongside the nullah will be developed within 2 feet and a 2-lane road project will be developed.
The meeting also discussed the rehabilitation of 25 Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) nullahs that were deemed critical in a feasibility study. The meeting was informed that the PC-1 for their immediate rehabilitation was tabled before the Planning & Development Department for approval and PKR 1 billion of PKR 2 billion allocated for the project has been released.
