Islamabad: The federal government recently initiated several road infrastructure projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with an aim to focus on the less developed areas of the province, a news source reported on August 3.

An official from the National Highway Authority (NHA) stated that the completion of these road infrastructure projects would ‘relieve the sense of deprivation’ among the people. He added that these uplift schemes would also provide new employment opportunities to the people of adjacent areas.
The official revealed that the following road infrastructure projects were underway in KP:
- Dualisation & improvement of Old Bannu Road
- Dualisation and improvement of Pindigheb-Kohat Road
- 36-km Peshawar-Dara Adam Khail Section of N-55
- Construction of Burhan-Havelian Expressway (E-35)
- Motorway from Burhan-Hakla on M-1to Dera Ismail (DI) Khan between Punjab
- Dualisation of Indus Highway (N-55) Sarai Gambila-Kohat Section
- Lowari Road Tunnel and Access Roads Project
- Construction of Malakand Tunnel (Phase-I)
- Peshawar Northern Bypass
- Khyber Pass Economic Corridor Project

The official added that the motorway from Burhan-Hakla on M-1 to DI Khan would become operational within the current fiscal year.
