Karachi: The Sindh and federal governments have decided to remove all hurdles delaying the mega projects including the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), functionalisation of various airports, laying of railway track for transportation of Thar Coal to upcountry, and resolving the land dispute between Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and provincial government, according to news published on June 25.

A meeting was held at the CM House, which was attended by Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister for Railways Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafique. During the meeting, the CM mentioned that the traffic issues of the city can be eliminated with the development of the KCR system. It was also mentioned that the modern KCR system will be linked with different BRT lines. The KCR project is a top priority as it is included in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Moreover, the CM Shah stated that all coal-fired power projects with Thar coal should be focused on as it will save foreign exchange and will be cheaper than imported ones. He also urged Railway Minister Rafique to speed up the process of laying railway tracks from Thar coal mines to the main line. Also, the meeting approved the 105-kilometre Thar Coal Fields to New Chhor Halt Station in the Mirpurkhas-Khokhrapar section.

Additionally, the meeting discussed the issues delaying the functionalisation of three airports including Sehwan, Hyderabad, and Mai Bakhtawar in Thar. The railway minister informed that there were encroachments at the Hyderabad Airport and it must be resolved quickly. The meeting also decided to send a technical team to study means and ways to functionalise the airport. It was decided to conduct similar inspections at the Thar and Sehwan airports. CM Shah informed that the Thar Airport has to be functionalised as it has commercial value.
