Several experts and activists unanimously proclaimed that Sindh was already facing severe water shortages, especially the low-lying areas of the province. They were concerned that this project might add to the problem if it was not properly planned out.
Previously, similar projects have already led to the destruction of hatcheries, mangrove forests, millions of acres of coastline as well as loss of agricultural land to hyper salination. The project could become a major cause of environmental degradation and a hike in pollution if it lacks proper alignment and planning.
