Karachi: Cement manufacturers experienced a 41% increase in sales during the month of May, according to the news sources. The data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) showed that the cement sector posted 49.86% growth in May 2021.

According to market sources, In July of last year, the price of cement in the north was PKR 514 per 50 kg bag. While the price of a 50 kg cement bag has climbed from PKR 610 to PKR 615 this year.
The APCMA’s spokesman asked the government to reduce the Federal Excise Duty (FED), tariffs, and other charges on cement so that producers could regulate production costs. It will also enable them to expand their facilities, produce more income, and create more job opportunities.
As far as the cement sales are concerned, the comparison of the cement sales in FY20 and FY21 is as follows.
- The cement delivered in the last financial year was 2.634 million tonnes, whereas it was 3.947 million tonnes this year.
- In terms of domestic consumption, it grew from 2.271 million tonnes to 3.201 million tonnes. While exports climbed from 363,174 tonnes in May 2020 to 746,550 tonnes in May of this year.
- In May, North-based cement mills sent 2.713 million tonnes in local markets, a 35.55% rise from 2.001 million tonnes.
- Aside from that, exports from mills in the North area totalled 7,520 tonnes, up from 203,625 tonnes in the previous month.
- South-based mills, on the other hand, sold 487,311 tonnes on the local market in May, an 81% increase from 269,003 tonnes.
- Exports from the South increased by 53%, from 355,654 tonnes to 542,925 tonnes in May 2021.
- Exports grew by 21% from 43.189 million tonnes to 52.222 million tonnes during July-May 2020-21 (11MFY21).
- In terms of local shipments, they increased from 36.13 million tonnes to 43.451 million tonnes during the 11MFY21. Exports climbed from 7.059 million tonnes to 8.771 million tonnes during the same time.

- Local consumption in North-based mills was 18.67% greater in 11MFY21 than the previous year. The North’s exports increased by 23% to 2.365 million tonnes from 1.924 million tonnes, representing a 23 % increase from 1.924 million tonnes.
- Similarly, South-based mills domestically sent 6.729 million tonnes in 11MFY21, a 30% increase over the previous year’s total of 5.187 million tonnes. During this time, South’s exports increased from 5.135 million tonnes to 6.406 million tonnes.
