Lahore: The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) announced that the sales in the cement sector increased by 6.5% in the first half of the current fiscal year 2019-2020 (FY 2019-20), according to a news source. The sector sold 24.75 million tonnes of cement from July 2019 to December 19, which was a 6.51% rise from the 23.24 million tonnes sold in the corresponding time period last year.

The APCMA further revealed that domestic consumption had also gone up by 3.54%, from 18.68 million tonnes to 20.37 million tonnes for the same time period. As for exports, they appreciated by 22% to 4.38 million tonnes from 3.56 million tonnes last year. The Northern mills accounted for 17.406 million tonnes in the domestic sector, up by 11.65% from last year. However, their exports declined by 3.85% to 1.42 million tonnes.

The local despatches from the Southern mills experienced a decrease by 27.41% to 2.967 million tonnes, while the exports soared by 41.87% to 2.957 million tonnes. APCMA stated that these statistics need to be improved, and a way to do this would be to boost construction through new housing projects.
