Islamabad: The federal government is looking to launch an overarching project worth PKR 100 billion that will be presented before the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) tomorrow for review and final approval — according to a news source. The CDWP will meet on Friday to review more than 20 projects, including the ML-1 railway project being developed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

The PKR 100-billion umbrella project is aimed to improve water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure in the country. The mega project, if approved, will be jointly financed by the federal and provincial governments.
According to the breakdown of these facilities:
- PKR 30 billion are to be allocated for water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure in schools
- PKR 25 billion will be allocated for clean drinking water
- PKR 25 billion for sewerage schemes
- PKR 15 billion for solid waste management
- PKR 5 billion for capacity building
Reportedly, the project has been envisaged as a response to the coronavirus pandemic — with the initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness, better sanitation, and hygiene facilities.
