Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved three projects for the installation of solar power plants in three districts of Punjab with an accumulative power generation capacity of 2,400 MW, according to news published on November 4.

As per the details shared, the CDWP approved three projects related to land acquisition in three districts of Punjab; Layyah, Jhang and Muzaffargarh, in its meeting held recently. After the federal government decided to install 10,000 MW solar power plants across Pakistan, the authorities have decided to install two 600 MW and one 1,200 MW power plants in the aforementioned districts of Punjab.

Moreover, the meeting was informed that a total of 7,200 acres will be acquired with a total cost of PKR 6.616 billion for the installation of solar power plants generating 2,400 MW. It was highlighted that the federal government will be providing funds for the land acquisition and the process will be executed by the National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC), while the installation of solar power plants will be conducted by the Alternative Energy Development Board. The land acquisition process is expected to be completed in the current fiscal year. Following are details of the planned land acquisition for the installation of solar power plants in three districts of Punjab:
- 4,800 acres will be acquired at Sher Garh, Tehsil Chobara, District Layyah with PKR 2.658 billion for the installation of a 1,200 MW solar power plant
- 2,400 acres will be acquired at Trimmu, District Jhang with PKR 2.558 billion for the installation of a 600 MW solar power plant
- 2,400 acres will be acquired at Tehsil Chowk Munda, District Muzaffargarh with PKR 1.4 billion for the installation of a 600 MW solar power plant
