Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Thursday (April 28) approved three development projects worth PKR 15.78 billion, news sources reported. The authority referred one of the projects to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval.

According to reports, at a meeting presided over by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Mohammad Jahanzeb Khan, the committee took up seven projects for deliberation and passed three projects after careful consideration.
The authority has approved the PKR 10.578 billion worth Torkham-Jalalabad Road’s Second Carriageway project, subjected to ECNEC’s approval. The new two-lane two-way highways connecting Torkham and Jalalabad will be built alongside the current Torkham-Jalalabad Road. The project will link Afghanistan, Central Asian Republics (CARs), and Pakistan. The government has funded this initiative in order to assist the Afghanistan government in its attempts to rebuild/rehabilitate roads.

Secondly, the establishment of PKR 3.6 billion worth 132KV Grid Station at Bin Qasim Industrial Park, Karachi was also approved. The project will offer an uninterrupted power supply at reasonable rates to the Bin Qasim Industrial Park Special Economic Zone (SEZ) aimed to address the power requirements of SEZ enterprises.

Finally, PKR 1.59 billion projects for the up-gradation of the Mechanical System for Sewerage & Drainage Services in the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Multan was also approved by the CDWP.
