Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Tuesday approved seven uplift projects, including the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Peshawar’s Jalozai Campus and the establishment of Hub Special Economic Zone (SEZ), worth an estimated PKR 41.34 billion, according to news sources.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan. Of the seven approved projects; six are to be developed with a combined cost of PKR 16.111 billion and a project (of worth PKR 25.226 billion) is cleared for approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). These projects are related to health, higher education, production, industries and information technology sectors.

Additionally, two projects related to Information Technology amounting to PKR 1.470 billion were also cleared in the meeting. After the revision in financial rules, CDWP has empowered itself to clear projects costing below PKR 10 billion, while the projects with higher estimated cost are forwarded to ECNEC for approval – after they have been cleared by CDWP on technical grounds.
