Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Thursday approved the ’10-Billion Tree Tsunami’ project, a countrywide environmental campaign launched by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan in September 2018, among a number of other initiatives – a news source reported.

CDWP sanctioned the schemes during a meeting, which was presided over by Federal Minister for Planning & Development Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar.
As per reports, the CDWP approved a total of 16 projects amounting to PKR 217 billion. These uplift schemes include the PKR 125-billion nationwide tree plantation campaign.
Previously, officials of the Ministry of Climate Change gave briefing on the phase-1 of the project. In response, the planning ministry approved some aspects of the scheme and referred it to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval.

Under this 10-billion-tree plantation initiative, the federal government would plant 3.3 billion trees. Its phase I is expected to be completed at a total cost of PKR 125.1 billion.
