Islamabad: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has sought the permission of the Planning Wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for the establishment of a bio-fuel plant in the city, a news source reported. As per officials, the said facility would process vegetable and other bio waste produced by the city’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market.
The Director Agriculture ICT, in a letter addressed to the CDA Planning Wing maintained that considerable bio-waste was generated at the city’s main sabzi mandi (vegetable market). He requested approval for the establishment of the first-of-its-kind bio-fuel plant, which would run on the energy emissions of the rotten vegetable and fruits, to be set up on the premises of the vegetable market.

Later, the planning wing inspected the proposed site and gave favourable recommendations; stating that the market committee and Agriculture Department of the ICT could commence with the plant’s development in the vicinity of the Software Technology Park situated in Sector I-9.

The formal requirements regarding this project are expected to be completed this week; with development work scheduled to begin from Monday. The plant is expected to be completed in two months, and it will open up a new avenue for the recycling of the bio waste, for the preservation of the environment.
