Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has resumed its anti-encroachment drive in the city and demolished multiple structures illegally erected on state land, news sources reported on February 6.

The anti-encroachment drive was conducted following orders from the CDA Chairman Noor-ul-Amin Mengal to retrieve public land and reduce traffic congestion caused due to encroachment. As per the details released by CDA, after multiple warnings and notices issued by the authority to the encroachers, the CDA launched an operation to clear the Right of Way (ROW). Recently, the operation was conducted in I J Principal Road, Markaz I-10, Sector I-9, and Markaz G-9. During the operation, 10 illegal structures of shops, eight sheds, five toilets and many fruit stalls were demolished in Sector I-9 and 89 illegal structures and shops were demolished in Sector I-10. The authority said that the operation will continue until all encroachments are removed from the public land.

It is important to note that the CDA released a report regarding its demolition activities in 2022 where it conducted over 1,142 operations against encroachments. The authority demolished over 6,295 illegal structures and also collected PKR 4.082 million in penalties and fines for various land and construction rules’ violations.
