Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority Development Working Party (CDADWP) has given the nod to the PKR 2.84 billion PC-1 for the development of an extensive cycling track in the federal capital, as revealed by a news source on December 22.

As per the details, the approval, granted during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Captain (retd) Anwarul Haq, marks a significant step towards the realisation of a 374-kilometer-long eco-friendly project. Scheduled to be completed in three phases over the next three years, the cycling track is poised to cover all sectors of Islamabad. The strategic integration of the track with the metro bus service and 13 routes of federal buses, slated to commence next month, adds a layer of accessibility and convenience. Additionally, the cycling track will boast 350 parking stations.

Under the approved plan, the CDA will spearhead the infrastructure development, while a private operator will be entrusted with providing electric cycles. The outsourcing of all parking stations is part of the streamlined operational framework. Taking inspiration from the Netherlands and the UK, the cycling track’s width will range from six to 10 feet, incorporating all necessary protective measures, including the installation of signals.Top of Form
