Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to increase the water supply to residents of the capital city to 50 million gallons per day (MGD) by the end of May, news sources reported on May 18. Currently, the overall water supply is standing at 45 MGD after the repair of several water supply channels.

The decision to increase the water supply was made during a meeting chaired by Chairman CDA Amir Ali Ahmad. He directed all concerned departments and officials to take all necessary steps required to improve the water supply by repairing leaks and making water tube wells operational. The meeting was briefed that the authority has added a total of 15 MGD of water to the existing capacity by repairing 1,000 leakages, functionalising 14 old tube wells, and operationalising another 18 new tube wells. It was also revealed that the capital city’s water requirements are met through the following sources:
- 20 MGD of water from Simly Dam
- 9 MGD from Khanpur Dam
- 2 MGD from Rawal Dam with the addition of another 2 MGD in the coming days

Moreover, the meeting was told that the total water supply will increase to 50 MGD of water with the addition of 4 MGD from other sources as well.
