Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has introduced a new mega solid waste management scheme in Islamabad – under which the waste of the city will be divided into two categories from the source point, according to news sources.

Initially, the solid waste management project is being implemented in Sector E-7 and I-8, Margalla Retreat and Park Enclave. After the successful implementation of the project’s pilot, will be extended to the other areas of the capital. Under the project, the UNDP will provide green and blue disposal bags in residencies to separate dry and wet waste from the source point.

It was highlighted that the authority plans to educate the public to divide solid waste into two groups, while further segregating them into hazardous and recyclable garbage for proper disposal. Under the new system, six vehicles will be provided to the sanitation department.
CDA Member (Administration) Amir Abbas stated that both UNDP and CDA were geared to replicate the new waste disposal system throughout Islamabad.
