Islamabad: The Punjab government has been requested by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for land provision to develop a small dam in Simly Dam’s upper area to resolve water scarcity issues in the capital, according to news sources.

Water Management Department’s Deputy Director General (DDG) Sardar Khan Zimri stated that CDA chairman has issued directions for the matter to be taken up with the Punjab government for the development of a small dam upstream Simly Dam at Chinoyot – which is located within the Punjab government’s jurisdiction.

Previously, the feasibility study for the construction of the reservoir was executed in the 1980s but the construction work wasn’t launched. Mr Zimri revealed that the completion of all formalities, construction work will be completed within two years. The proposed dam would contribute 20 million gallon daily (mgd) water to the system and store water during rainy seasons.
