Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), under an amnesty scheme, is to regularise unplanned structures in Banigala that were constructed before March 30, 2018, stated a news report. The civic authority shared this information with the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday.
A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar was told that any construction carried out after March 30 will be demolished.
The apex court had taken suo motu notice of encroachment in the botanical garden, unplanned construction in Banigala, and pollution in Rawal Lake. After listening to Additional Attorney General Nayyer Rizvi, who represented CDA, the top court summoned a complete report on the authority’s drive against illegal construction along the riverbeds of Korang in two weeks.
In addition, the SC also directed the Punjab Government to compile and share details of a sewerage scheme for the area. The purpose of these proceedings is to protect the botanical garden and Korang riverbed.
