Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) has cancelled an agreement between Capital Development Authority (CDA) and overseas Pakistanis to provide land to the latter, according to a news report. The land was to be sanctioned for the construction of a tech university. The court also directed the civic agency to return the USD 29 million figure paid for the land.
Overseas Pakistanis had filed a case over the establishment of the university. A three-member bench of SC, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, heard the case.
The court noted that the petitioners had fulfilled their end of the contract. However, CDA had failed to meet all the conditions listed. The overseas Pakistanis were demanding a refund, because the land had not been allotted to them.
CDA counsel maintained that the authority cannot refund the money on its own. The finance ministry will have to be consulted.
