Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to launch electric buses for an intracity commute that will operate on six different public transport routes, according to news published on October 7.

As per the details, the CDA has planned to launch 13 new bus routes in the two phases. CDA Chairman Captain Usman Younis revealed that in the first phase, the e-buses will run on six routes. In the second phase, the authority will acquire buses for seven additional routes. He went on to say that the CDA will start a route from Faizabad to Pir Wadhai after the completion of IJP Road.
Reportedly, the CDA will provide space for charging stations for the buses and will construct three base stations. The news source stated the civic agency will open tenders for consultancy regarding bus service on October 12. It was disclosed that the first batch of e-buses will reach Islamabad by the end of December.

Moreover, the CDA is evaluating the feasibility of all routes and preparing tender documents for different contractors. The authority states that the purpose is to protect the environment, reduce dependency on private transport, and save fuel costs.
