Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to expedite the finalization of Islamabad’s first-ever cricket stadium design. The directive was issued during a high-level meeting at the CDA headquarters, where the minister expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the project.
Following the minister’s orders, the CDA will hire a consultant to prepare the stadium’s design. The proposed venue, expected to accommodate over 50,000 spectators, is likely to be built near D-12 at the foothills of the Margalla Hills.

Discussions between the CDA and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) last year outlined plans for PCB to complete the stadium’s construction within five years. The CDA had proposed allocating 280 kanals of land on a 99-year lease, with revenue distribution set at 70% for PCB and 30% for CDA.
A previous attempt to build a cricket stadium in Shakarparian was halted due to legal restrictions. However, with a new location under consideration, the project is now moving forward with government backing.
