As per details, during a progress review meeting with members of the Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) and relevant ministries, Minister Iqbal emphasised the need for a policy framework on vertical housing.
In line with the Prime Minister’s directive to identify all state properties and utilise them through public-private partnerships, Minister Iqbal tasked the CDA chairman with formulating and implementing a high-rise housing policy for Islamabad’s various sectors.
Minister Iqbal highlighted that vertical housing and commercial developments will not only make housing more affordable but also protect the environment and ensure food security. He urged the CDA chairman to study successful models from leading cities such as Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, and Shanghai, and incorporate their best practices into Islamabad’s plans. “Pakistan cannot continue expanding horizontally to meet residential and commercial needs,” said Minister Iqbal. “We must prioritise vertical housing to preserve our green spaces, ensure food security, and provide affordable housing for all, especially the underprivileged.”
