Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to engage the Survey of Pakistan (SOP) for the demarcation of Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) and Zone III, news sources reported on December 26.

As per the news reports, the SOP will demarcate the boundaries of Zone III and suggest zoning regulations. This will be completed in addition to the zoning regulations commission formed by CDA to suggest appropriate policy changes in the proposed area. In this regard, the CDA proposed names for the commission that includes retired a high court judge, technical and academic personalities to supervise the completion of the task.
As per the authority’s spokesperson, the names of the former general, National University of Science and Technology (NUST) faculty members, town planners, and environmentalists are being considered for the proposed commission. The proposed commission will also look into the construction issues, including CDA’s housing schemes, which are underway within a 2-kilometre radius of Rawal Dam.

It is important to note that Zone III, which spans around 50,000 acres, consists of the Margalla Hill National Park and privately-owned land. Of this area, at least 20,000 acres have no governing regulations and are private property.
