Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans for a large-scale Spring Tree Plantation Drive 2025, engaging corporate entities, NGOs, and the public to enhance Islamabad’s green cover.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa chaired a meeting at the CDA headquarters on Monday, attended by senior officials, corporate representatives from Nestlé, Centaurus Mall, Garana, Imarat Group of Companies, and Agency 21, as well as NGOs and other stakeholders.
The Spring Plantation Drive 2025 is set to formally launch on February 19 at IMCB F-8, with extensive tree plantation planned across F-9 Park, Shakarparian, urban and rural areas, and along nullahs. To further boost afforestation, seed balls will be dropped via helicopters and drones in Margalla Hills National Park.
Chairman Randhawa emphasized the active involvement of the private sector, urging companies and brands to contribute to environmental welfare. He also directed the allocation of specific plantation zones to businesses and encouraged student participation.
To promote public engagement, stalls distributing plants will be set up in major parks and commercial areas. Additionally, a digitized monitoring system will be introduced, allowing for online tracking of planted trees. The CDA will also publish a list of indigenous, climate-compatible plants on its website, prioritizing fruit-bearing and flowering trees.
Randhawa stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure the success of the initiative, reinforcing Islamabad’s commitment to sustainability and urban forestry.
