Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) revealed its plans on Monday to initiate the ‘Cycling as an Alternate Transport’ project for promoting sustainable and eco-friendly transportation, as claimed by a news source on December 12.

According to the details, the CDA outlined its commitment to developing a comprehensive network of bicycle lanes spanning over 146-kilometre of dedicated two-way paths and 98-kilometre of one-way lanes across Islamabad.
The primary objectives of this initiative include the reduction of the city’s carbon footprint and the alleviation of traffic congestion. An integral part of the plan involves introducing paddle and e-bike options, with the Islamabad administration ensuring 100% protected and connected lanes for cyclists.
During a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Anwarul Haq, he emphasized the project’s goal of establishing a secure and extensive bicycle route network throughout the city. This network aims to promote safe and accessible cycling as a viable commuting option for citizens, fostering a more equitable transport landscape.

As part of the comprehensive plan, 72 bicycle parking stations will be strategically placed throughout the federal capital, further supporting, and encouraging the adoption of cycling as a means of commute. This initiative represents a crucial step forward in fostering a greener, healthier, and more accessible urban environment for the citizens of Islamabad.
