Another people-friendly endeavour is the CDA’s decision to make Islamabad Pakistan’s first pedestrian-friendly metropolis, complete with official maps and improved signposts and markings. The decision was made following a meeting between Chairman CDA Amir Ali Ahmad and famous urban designer Dr Naveed Iftikhar. The conference resolved that the authority will improve pedestrian and walking spaces in the city, as well as improve land availability and utilisation. This will also involve the implementation of paid parking, which is slated for the end of March, as well as the introduction of buses.
