Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has sealed 20 construction sites along the G.T. Road in Zone V, a news source reported. The civic agency’s building control directorate took action against several developments built on the said road network from Soan to Rawat.
According to CDA spokesperson Syed Safdar Ali, these buildings were sealed after the issuance of several notices. He said that these constructions had been sealed last year as well, but their owners had continued with their development work anyway.
As per reports, there are more than a hundred unauthorised buildings in the area expected to be sealed soon.
CDA does not currently have any bylaws that deal with unauthorised building constructions on main roads. A summary had been prepared, previously, for enforcing these new regulations. But the issue had been deferred.
The CDA spokesperson explained that, as per court orders, the buildings can’t be regulated until Islamabad’s master plan has been reviewed. The existing by-laws relate to regularising already constructed buildings. So they are not relevant to under-construction buildings.
He informed that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been imposed on unauthorised constructions. There is also a complete ban on unauthorised buildings development in Islamabad.
