Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is to resume development work on the Faisal Avenue underpass currently under construction between Sectors G-7 and G-8 – whose progress had remained stalled for at least a month amid the city’s coronavirus lockdown, according to news sources. The underpass is officially touted as one of the capital’s main development projects.

The district administration has granted permission to the CDA to resume the project’s developmental work, upon a request moved by CDA Member Engineering Dr Shahid Mehmood. In response, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) District Magistrate issued its no-objection certificate (NoC) – meaning the city administration has no issues with commencement of on-site work or transport of construction materials.

However, the administration has issued a few conditions:
- All staff deputed on site will use gloves, masks, sanitisers and temperature guns
- Any employee having symptoms of flu or fever will not be allowed to work
- CDA will be responsible for the cleanliness and hygiene maintenance of the site area
This underpass aims to improve the city’s traffic flow by linking its eastern and western parts at the Faisal Avenue.
