Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has received bids from government-owned construction firms; Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and National Logistics Cell (NLC) for the expansion of the 7-kilometre-long Islamabad Expressway, from PWD to Grand Truck (GT) Road, according to news published in the leading newspaper on June 22.

As per the details, the FWO has submitted a bid of PKR 10.9 billion while NLC’s bid was PKR 11.7 billion. Currently, the Bid Evaluation Committee (BEC) is evaluating the FWO bid and has directed the organisation to submit rates in the meeting. After the approval of the committee, the CDA will accept the bid before issuing work orders.
According to details, the Islamabad Expressway project will be completed in 18 months. Under the expansion project, the expressway way will be extended to four lanes on both sides along with the construction of the Sohan Bridge.

It is pertinent to note that the civic agency opens the bids for the project on June 10. The CDA Board approved the execution of the Islamabad Expressway project through a government contractor under 42(F) rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).
