Islamabad: Planning Development and Special Initiatives Minister Ahsan Iqbal has asked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to draft a comprehensive plan for water conservation in the twin cities, according to news published in the leading newspaper on October 17.

The minister emphasised the importance of water during a workshop organised by the Ministry of Planning Development & Special Initiatives and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to showcase the institutional and governance models of municipal service delivery in urban cities.
As per the details, the ministry provides a platform for knowledge sharing and coordination among the stakeholders whereas AFD offers technical assistance on ‘Assessment of Municipal Services in Islamabad’ and proposes viable institutional solutions.
Moreover, the minister stated that there is no mechanism in place to stop the wastage of water while water shortage is a huge issue. He directed the authorities concerned to take practical steps to devise an action plan as it is the need of the hour.

Iqbal highlighted the importance of sewage treatment plants and asked the authorities to launch such plants so used water can be utilised. He stressed that the behaviour of the people also needs to be changed to address the issue of water wastage.
