Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to revive the Rawal Dam sewage treatment plant project worth PKR 6 billion in a bid to stop the contamination of Rawal Dam, news sources reported on October 17.

The project to protect the capital city’s primary drinkable water source remained on the back burner for years. According to the revised Project Concept-1, the CDA will construct three sewage water treatment facilities in the dam’s catchment areas of Shahdara, Bari Imam, and Banigala. Under this project, approximately 9.6 million gallons of sewage will be treated daily.

As per the news source, it will take 14 months for the project to complete from the commencement date. In this respect, the CDA would seek Planning Commission clearance for the amended PC-I before soliciting new bids. The project will be completed in an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) mode, which means the design and engineering will be handled by an EPC contractor and certified by the Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) within three months of the contract awar
