Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a massive plantation drive to plant 500,000 saplings this spring in Islamabad and nearby regions, news sources reported.

Under the CDA spring plantation drive, the authority has planted over 150,000 seedlings in the last two weeks with the help of residents. The initiative includes active participation from schoolchildren. Sharing the details on his Twitter account, CDA Chairman Noor ul Amin Mengal said that the aim is to involve the commercial sector and civil society to make this initiative successful. He said the CDA Environment Branch planted 250,000 plants last year, and the goal has doubled this year. Under the scheme, the authority has started distributing free fruit tree seedlings, such as peaches, apricots, and pomegranates, to citizens.

The CDA aims to distribute 20,000 seedlings over the next 15 days to plant 500,000 seedlings this spring. CDA has recently announced that it plans to plant saplings on land recovered during the anti-encroachment drive. The authority has also initiated multiple park development projects, including developing roadside jogging tracks in the city.
