According to the details, the initiative was directed by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa during a meeting on Geo-Spatial Land Survey and Encroachment held on Monday. The CDA chairman emphasised the importance of leveraging modern tools, including drone surveillance and satellite imagery provided by SUPARCO, to enhance land monitoring and urban development oversight.
These technologies will be instrumental in identifying encroachments and tracking changes in land use across Islamabad. The Geo-Spatial Technology project was highlighted as a key initiative for tackling challenges related to encroachment on CDA-acquired land and the proliferation of informal settlements. Recent surveys conducted in key commercial areas, including prominent markets and hubs, have already begun mapping violations and irregularities.
Key Directives
- Enhanced Monitoring: Chairman Randhawa instructed the use of real-time imaging and continuous surveillance to detect encroachments and ensure timely action.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): The meeting discussed the development of SOPs to streamline the geo-spatial surveys, establish clear timelines, and ensure efficiency in addressing encroachment issues.
- Daily Reporting and Coordination: A system for daily monitoring and reporting was proposed, with operations to involve close coordination between all relevant CDA formations and the district administration.
- Preventive Measures: The chairman called for strict action against repeat offenders, including the registration of FIRs, to deter future violations. Additionally, mechanisms will be developed to prevent the recurrence of encroachments on cleared land.
